Originally greek, was an holiday
center all-ready during the
romain empire, they come to pass
their summer, infact we still
have rest of old wall and
villas.
With the arrivals of the
Normanns, Sorrento, followed the
destiny of Neaples.
Independent Ducat in the high
middle-age it has to fight
against the Amalfitan and
Saracensto keep its autonomy.
All-ready in the XVI century
carpenter worked wood in
churches and palaces, a method
called "intarsio" which is
inlaid wood work, that became a
real factory last century and
today is one of the most
important activity for Sorrento.
Torquato Tasso, famous italian
writer, is born in Sorrento.
Is under Federico II di Borbone
that the s.s. 145 ( the road
that connect Castellamare to
Sorrento) is been built. |
